While it has been a few weeks since our rechartering ceremony, I think that the event still merits some additional attention.
First off on a very basic level, the mere fact of having our charter hanging back up in our library again is a celebratory achievement. However, what made the rechartering ceremony all the more special was the amazing alumni support that we received. None of this would have been possible without our very active and helpful band of alumni brothers. They did not only much of the dirty work in digging up lost information, but also funding the project. It truly was an honor to see Life Loyal Sigs in action. To have that many successful, knowledgeable, and well spoken alumni brothers in the same room at the same time is clear proof in my eyes of the Sigma Chi Fraternity's knack for developing excellence.
And it is that excellence which we as active brothers must carry forward. Brother Behring gave a great speech on legacy which I know for a fact resonated with many brothers. Legacy is crucial for each and everyone of us. What legacy do we wish to leave behind for our fraternity, what legacy do we wish to leave behind on the world? Furthermore, do not shy away from the past, but rather embrace the history and values and use the available resources to maximize the greatest results going forward. While one may only be an active brother for four years, it was made very clear to all at the rechartering ceremony, through the moving lyrics of the brothers singing A Sig I Am, that no matter what,
"A Sig I am, a Sig I'll be; A Sig through all eternity."
While we may have lost our charter document, our faith and fervor for Sigma Chi has never been lost through the years. Though I must admit, I cannot help but be elated to to have the charter back.
